How can Europe cut emissions by 90% by 2040? What key technologies are needed to reach that 90% emission reduction?
In the latest episode of FORESIGHT Climate & Energy Debates, our Founder & CEO, Peter Schniering, joins Kira Taylor to explore what it will take to make Europe’s clean industrial transition a reality, from systemic thinking to practical frameworks that can unlock investment.
“The Clean Industry Deal is the major framework here, and it is crucial to reaching the 2040 goals. And then there are sub-segments such as the [Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework] CISAF, the recommendations by the Commission on tax incentives, that can provide important stimulus. But it’s really rethinking the system. […] It’s a systemic type of perspective we need, and it’s to some degree, a systemic type of change”, explains Peter Schniering
The episode highlights the need for greater awareness of available clean technologies, such as thermal energy storage, reducing the price of electricity by improving flexibility and expanding grids and infrastructure, and the role of policy to drive progress and avoid uncertainty.
