Future Cleantech Architects, together with 27 other think tanks, research institutions, civil society organisations and cleantech associations, have signed a joint letter to the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union. We outline 9 key recommendations to deliver a far more coordinated and predictable lab-to-market pathway for cleantech and to shape Europe’s industrial future. This comes at a decisive moment in the negotiations for the next Multiannual Financial Framework, with the Council and Permanent Representatives of Member States meeting this Friday to discuss the new European Competitiveness Fund.
Recommendations on the European Competitiveness Fund:
✅ Create a predictable lab-to-scale journey for cleantech innovators with an earmarked Clean Transition window that targets Europe’s major demonstration and scale-up funding gaps.
✅ Support strong lead markets through clean public procurement to drive demand for low-carbon products and accelerate scale-up.
✅ Embed a transparent, evidence-based methodology in Work Programmes to prioritise strategic technologies, the biggest investment gaps along their value chains, and the most effective financial instrument for each stage: grants for early innovation, guarantees/loans for scale-up, or equity for fast-growing companies.
