Our Founder & CEO, Peter Schniering, took part in Euronews’ show “Brussels, my love?“, discussing COP29 (and the future of the Framework Convention Process), the current state of the transition away from fossil fuels, and the future of electric mobility. The episode, moderated by Dr. Dr. Stefan Grobe, and with Patrizia Heidegger (European Environmental Bureau) and Franziska Heckel (Save Soil), was aired last weekend.
“Fortunately, we have now seen such learning curves in the key energy technologies, the key renewable technologies and also the peripheral technologies. Over the last few decades, we have reached a tipping point, a positive tipping point, a technological tipping point, and you only have to look at the ramping up of photovoltaic capacities in China in recent years.” – Peter Schniering
Besides many troubling global trends, there are encouraging signs, and many of them originate from technology development. They are positive tipping points caused by cleantech innovation. If driven by best-practice policies in a long-term framework, governments can provide just the right impulse to release innovators’ creative forces. Ideally, at some point these new, clean technologies out-perform incumbents. Once the point is crossed, a reinforcing feedback loop will accelerate the progress.
