Upon invitation of EU Trade and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), we will host our session “Accelerating the scale-up of technologies in a transatlantic context – Thermal energy storage and industry” on January 31st. The event is part of the Transatlantic Initiative on Sustainable Trade (TIST).
High-temperature heat (>100°C) is one essential input for many hard-to-abate industries such as steel, cement, glass, and metals. Hence, the decarbonization of such processes must be put on the agenda of policy-makers and innovators. During this session, we will discuss the current state of Thermal Energy Storage (TES) for the industry in both the EU and the US, the existing research programmes or joint demonstration projects that can be leveraged to encourage rapid scale-up, the regulatory barriers that need to be removed to facilitate the cross-border dissemination of technologies, and the financing mechanisms and incentives that can be put in place to attract private investment and public funding for scaling up thermal energy storage on both sides of the Atlantic.
The Transatlantic Initiative on Sustainable Trade (TIST) aims to allow the transatlantic stakeholder community to provide input on how it can promote a more integrated and resilient transatlantic marketplace that will help accelerate the transition to a climate-neutral and more circular economy to the benefit of businesses, workers, and consumers on both sides of the Atlantic.
